Training Course: C.A.S.T.! Community building, Awareness raising and Social inclusion through forum Theatre! 10/05/015

Training Course

4-11 June 2015 | Kalamata, Greece
The main aim of the project is to train youth workers on the use of non-formal tools and methods, so as to contribute to the empowerment and increase in self-confidence of the young people, especially of young NEETs.

During the last years, the financial crisis all over Europe has created more “youth with fewer opportunities”, raising the unemployment rates in high percentages especially in the ages between 18-30. Youth are becoming demotivated, entering a negative psychological circle, which is reducing their employability skills and inhibits creativity.
In addition, one can observe in European Societies the augmentation of nationalism, the intensification of stereotypes (promoted also by the media), the increase of feelings of xenophobia and racism (targeting mostly people of different cultural backgrounds, immigrants, etc) and the increased marginalization and intolerance towards certain groups of people (Roma, homosexuals, people living in extreme poverty, etc).

Many youth organizations are asked to respond to these new needs and they are experimenting with new, innovative, methodologies.

During this training course we would like to explore how Forum Theatre can be used in Youth Work as a tool for building a sense of community, raising awareness on current issues, promoting solidarity and social inclusion, and giving the motivation and will to the young people to become more active citizens and, as Boal himself said, “build their own future, rather than just waiting for it”.

The objectives of this project are:
- To introduce the participants to Forum Theatre and explore how it can be used as a tool in Youth Work
- To map the challenges youth are facing and the ways that youth work, using different tools, can empower the young people in order to overcome them
- To promote the exchange of best practices and the transfer of innovation.
- To train participants on how to adapt forum theatre methods to the particularities and needs of their own target – group, in order to achieve the best possible results
- To develop competences in setting up activities for young people from marginalized communities and analyze the challenges they face in their everyday work with youth with fewer opportunities.
- To share knowledge about the ERASMUS+ programme and create a network for the development of common projects in the near future

To achieve the objectives of the project we will use a combination of non-formal learning methods and tools (round table discussions, presentations, experiential exercises, peer to peer, reflection, role playing etc) and theoretical background, while the main tool that will be presented and which the participants would learn to use is the forum theatre, a technique that is used, among others, to empower groups in crisis, dramatizing the experiences of the participants and exploring different ways to respond to them.

The project is expected to have a direct impact on participants, the organizations that they represent and their target groups, by improving the skills of people working in the youth sector and the services offered to young people and through the exchange of good practices and tools. In the long term, and using a well-thought strategy for dissemination and exploitation of the project’s results, the impact is expected to pass to a wider European and global context, further promoting the importance of non-formal learning and the skills acquired through it, and also the importance and role of youth workers in strengthening and stimulating the confidence of young people to become themselves more active on issues that concern them.

Application deadline: 10 May 2015

Date of selection: 15 May 2015

The project "Social ARTpreneurship for Innovative Solutions" aims at making an important contribution to the promotion of "Social Entrepreneurship" at European level, emphasizing the possibilities that art and culture can offer to young people, in order to improve their working conditions. The project foresees a training course to be held in Llinars del Vallès (Barcelona, Spain) from the 15th to the 22nd of June 2015. The working methods will be based on art and creativity, and will include games and dynamics; group cohesion activities; moments of reflection and analysis; simulations; theatre workshops; individual and working group activities; sessions to exchange experiences and best practices; and a presentation to an external audience. It is expected that the project will get the following results: the acquisition by participants of new competences based on art and creativity, that will enable them to improve their working conditions, and a greater spirit of initiative; new reflections about the concept of "Social Entrepreneurship" in Europe, and the role that art and culture can have in this sector; new "creative" solutions to the problem of youth unemployment in Europe; new network projects between European youth organisations. It is expected that the project will impact both directly in participants, in international partner organizations and in the local community where the activities will take place, as well as indirectly in the communities of origin of the participants, through a deep multiplier effect. In a long-term perspective, the project will promote and disseminate the use of art and creativity as privileged working tools in educational interventions carried out for young people.

• To share good examples and practices of Social Entrepreneurship in Europe.

• To empower European young people through the development and the recognition of new artistic and creative competences, supporting their professional development.
• To explore creative methods in the fight against youth unemployment in Europe.
• To foster social development of Europe through culture and arts.
On the other hand we want to emphasize that the practical activities proposed contain in themselves social values and meet the following specific objectives:
• To develop individual values: the challenge that mean the different theatrical disciplines help us to develop the spirit of perseverance and self confidence, to improve self-esteem, to develop a sense of safety and risk, to discover our capabilities and our limits, to develop creativity.
• To promote group values: the performing arts are team disciplines, where you learn that active participation, cooperation and group cohesion are essential to achieve a long-term objective.
• To facilitate and develop the integration through education for diversity, solidarity and Intercultural Dialogue.

Working methods:
Social theatre, clown, street theatre, performative theatre. The training course is based on practical work: activities will include a very good overview and practical experience of these methods through individual work, working groups and collective group work, and at the end of the training we will realise a final performance in the hosting local community, using the techniques we will train during the course, as a result of the work done and as an important learning opportunity for participants.
Each participant will end this project with ideas about how to use these tools in their future actions. A purpose for this TC is to proceed with already existing network members to follow-up plans, to exchange good practices and to prepare future quality projects.

One of the biggest challenges in the last decade among youth workers, youth leaders, project managers, young people who are enough brave to apply for a youth application of European Commission through its youth programmes e.g. Youth programme, Youth in Action programme, and now Erasmus + programme to find relevant and useful tools, techniques and methods how they can make their youth projects more visible, how they can spread the results of their projects more efficiently and how they can support other organisations, young people, youth workers or even politicians to use or adapt their project results as exploitation. How to reach the micro – level impact and the meso – level impact or even to achieve the macro – level impact with their visibility, dissemination and exploitation activities. Now in the new Erasmus + programme, there is even bigger request from European Commission for these actions, to make huge waves of the supported projects, to reach more people from locals, from Europe and even among youth policy makers. Training Course: The TopsyTurvy Learning Experience - a quest for learning in a chaotic, upside down world 20/04/015

Training Course

6-12 June 2015 | Haus Enzian Diemtigtal, Switzerland
When you would look up ‘topsy turvy’ in the dictionary you would find ‘upside down’ and ‘in a state of confusion’. That’s exactly what this training course is about: turning ‘learning’ upside down and exploring the confusion

When you would look up ‘topsy turvy’ in the dictionary you would find ‘upside down’ and ‘in a state of confusion’. That’s exactly what this training course is about: turning ‘learning’ upside down and exploring the confusion, which will be caused by that.
Learning and education are under discussion more then ever. New concepts arriving from the political level like Life Long Learning and Learning to Learn but at the same time new insights from the practical and methodological level about how people learn are turning our ideas about learning upside down. It becomes more and more clear that education needs a revolution. Although a lot of discussions are about formal education it would be a bit too easy to think that in non-formal education we don’t need a critical look at our approaches. We think it’s the perfect opportunity to explore new ways, ideas and concepts about learning. If you are into that… join us!

What to expect?
‘The programme will take you...’ No!! The programme will not take you…you will take and make your own programme. We are aiming to built a structure where participants can follow their own interest and questions, find different ways to work on that, meet peers to work with and discover inspiring environments to work in. The programme will offer a rich diversity of tools, methods, sessions, environments for you to use if you want to. The main objective is that you will be able to work, together with others, on your questions and will share your findings and new questions with the whole group. An exploring event where we hope to find new ideas and new questions concerning learning and the facilitation of learning that can be brought into practice in the different actions of the Erasmus+:Youth in Action programme. We believe there is a strong connection between the exploring of your own learning and the facilitation of the learning of others. In order to assist participants in finding their questions and focuses an online platform will already start one month before the actual course and will be available to exchange ideas and wishes.

Objectives of the course:
To support participants to identify their own ‘natural’ way of learning
To support participants to further develop and broaden their facilitation, mentoring and coaching- capacities.
To explore how creativity, ‘chaos’ and unconventional environments can provoke new
perceptions about (self-directed) learning.
To create a challenging non-linear learning environment to provoke divergent and creative
thinking.
To share theories and concepts on learning and facilitation of learning.
To explore the possibilities to apply ‘new learning’ in the different actions of the Erasmus+: Youth
in Action programme

Application deadline: 20 April 2015

Date of selection: 25 may 2015
